When Kennedy Garcia was born with Down syndrome, doctors gave her mom a future that sounded heartbreaking.
They reportedly told Renee that Kennedy could have a very limited quality of life and even suggested that placing her in an institution might be the kindest option.
But Renee refused to give up on her baby.
One kind midwife helped change everything. She told Renee about her own daughter, who also had Down syndrome, and reminded her that Kennedy’s diagnosis didn’t mean she couldn’t walk, grow up or experience the milestones other children did.
And Kennedy went on to prove just how wrong those early predictions could be. ❤️
Today, she has competed in dance competitions, modeled for major American brands and traveled to Hollywood and New York for auditions and modeling jobs.
She also faced another huge battle along the way, fighting leukemia and coming through it with incredible strength.
Kennedy and her mom now visit schools to help children better understand Down syndrome and encourage greater acceptance and inclusion.
Looking back, Renee says it’s still difficult to believe how little hope she was given when Kennedy was born.
“I feel sad that I wasted time grieving for moments like prom dress shopping as I really had been led to believe none of the normal milestones would be reached.”
Kennedy didn’t let those predictions define her.
She grew up, found her own path and has spent years showing people that a diagnosis doesn’t tell you everything about a person’s future. 🥹❤️
Her story is a pretty incredible reminder to never underestimate what someone might be capable of.
