Man Killed In Tiger Attack At Yorkshire Wildlife Park Is Named As William Chapman 💔
The man who died after being attacked by a tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park has been named as William Chapman.
William died on Saturday afternoon, October 10, after entering the enclosure of Altai, an Amur tiger, at the wildlife park near Doncaster.
Emergency services were called shortly after 1.30pm, but despite their efforts, William was pronounced dead at the scene. An eyewitness described seeing him wearing headphones and pacing near the enclosure before he entered.
His family have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. The park was evacuated following the incident and has remained closed while investigations continue.
The City of Doncaster Council has also launched a health and safety investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Dr Campbell Murn, a former member of the Government’s zoo expert committee and a lecturer at the University of Reading, said that although the incident was tragic, determined individuals can sometimes breach even the strongest security measures at animal enclosures.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park has confirmed that Altai was unharmed and will not be euthanised following the incident.
The heartbreaking tragedy has raised questions about enclosure safety, while many people have expressed sympathy for William’s family and called for the tiger to be protected.
Our thoughts are with William’s loved ones and everyone affected .
