For a few terrifying moments, it looked like the unthinkable was about to happen. The child’s head jerked toward the enclosure as the gorilla’s fingers tangled in her hair, visitors shouting and reaching out in helpless desperation. Zoo staff rushed in, their orders sharp and urgent, creating a fragile line between control and chaos. Then, almost as suddenly as it began, the grip loosened. The girl was pulled to safety, shaken but miraculously not seriously hurt, her cries slowly giving way to stunned silence.
