Their love was once considered illegal — but together, they built a family that would become their greatest legacy.

.

When Hollywood stars Georg Stanford Brown and Tyne Daly fell in love, their relationship challenged a society that wasn’t always willing to accept them.
The couple met while studying at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. Tyne later recalled looking across the room and thinking, “Oh my goodness, there’s the father of my children.”
Just five months after they began dating, they knew they wanted to spend their lives together.
They married in 1966, at a time when interracial marriage was still illegal in numerous states.
But Tyne never defined their relationship by the labels other people placed on them. She once described it simply as being married to “another member of the human race.”
Their love story would also make television history.
When Georg appeared on The Rookies, the couple shared one of television’s early interracial kisses. Network censors wanted the scene removed, but they stood their ground — and it ultimately aired.
Away from the cameras, they were building something even more important: a family.
Their daughters Alisabeth and Kathryne were born in 1967 and 1971, followed by their youngest daughter, Alyxandra, in 1985.
Tyne had always dreamed of having a big family, but balancing motherhood with a demanding acting career wasn’t easy. She even returned to Cagney & Lacey with her youngest daughter, carrying her baby on her back while working.
Eventually, though, their marriage came to an end.
The breakup was painful, and Tyne later spoke openly about how difficult it had been to balance her career, motherhood and marriage.
But the family they had created remained.
As their daughters grew older, each one began carving out a path of her own.
Alisabeth largely stayed away from the spotlight and became a visual artist. Kathryne followed her parents into acting, appearing alongside her mother and working in television.
Their youngest daughter, Alyxandra, known as Xan, chose a completely different direction. She left Hollywood behind and built a life around baking with her husband in Canada.
None of the three simply followed the path their famous parents had created.
They became their own women.
And perhaps that’s the most beautiful part of Georg and Tyne’s story.
Their parents broke barriers — but their daughters became the legacy. ❤️
