“My Grandkids Asked Me What This Is?”

“Grandpa, what’s that orange thing with the gray skin? Is it a new kind of fruit?” they asked.

I laughed and said,
“No, my little ones, this is a winter squash! A gift from nature that we’ve had in our garden for generations.”

“Why do they call it winter squash?” one of them asked.
“Because it lasts a long time — all the way through winter. When other vegetables are gone, this one stays full of vitamins and flavor.”

They leaned closer to touch it.
“Why is it so orange inside?”

“That’s because it’s full of beta-carotene, which your body turns into vitamin A. It’s great for your eyes, your skin, and your immune system. And when you cook it, it becomes soft and naturally sweet.”

“Can we make soup with it, Grandpa?”
“Of course! You can make soup, pie, or even dessert. Squash is like a little treasure chest of health.”

They giggled and said,
“So it’s not just an orange thing — it’s a super veggie!”

And I thought to myself,
“The beauty of life is when simple things become lessons for the next generation.” 🌻
