October 2025. As the United States was seething with controversy surrounding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, another name was suddenly dragged into the eye of the storm — Robert De Niro, the film legend, two-time Oscar winner and always considered the “liberal conscience” of Hollywood.
De Niro frowned, responding calmly but sharply:
“Charlie… who? I don’t know who that is.”
The answer landed like a stone thrown into a calm pond. The audience chuckled, a few applauded, but within hours the Internet exploded.
On X (Twitter), the hashtag #DeNiroDisrespect was trending nationwide. A slew of prominent conservative accounts—from Ben Shapiro to Candace Owens to Matt Walsh—attacked:
“He pretends not to know Charlie Kirk? A man who was just shot dead for speaking the truth?”
Candace Owens even wrote bluntly:
“If Robert De Niro doesn’t know who Charlie Kirk is, he probably doesn’t know where America is going.”
