Marilu Henner, born Mary Lucy Denise Henner on April 6, 1952, in Chicago, came into the world amid a city pulsing with music, art, and Midwest charm. Her father, Joseph, was a Polish-American car dealer, while her mother, Loretta, a Greek-American, ran a dance studio that would shape Marilu’s early years.
Surrounded by five siblings, she began dancing at the tender age of two, mastering ballet, tap, and jazz.
By 14, she was choreographing neighborhood shows, already demonstrating a natural stage presence that hinted at her future stardom.
Tragedy struck early-her father passed away at 52 and her mother struggled with chronic illness-which instilled in Marilu resilience, independence, and a focus on wellness that would later define her life.
These experiences taught her to navigate challenges with grace and determination, laying the groundwork for a career that demanded both creativity and stamina.
