A Black Spot on Your Face? Don’t Always Ignore It

Here is what it is and how it should be handled with care. 👇👇

A black spot or bump on the face can be something harmless, such as a blackhead, mole, age spot, or other benign skin growth. However, after the age of 50–55, a new or changing dark spot should not simply be ignored.

Watch for signs such as:

getting larger or changing shape
uneven or irregular borders
multiple colors within the same spot
bleeding or crusting
persistent itching or irritation
a sore that doesn’t heal
🩺 Can it be treated?

Treatment depends entirely on what the spot actually is. There is no safe home treatment that can remove a potentially cancerous skin lesion. A dermatologist can examine it, sometimes using dermoscopy, and decide whether a biopsy is needed.

If skin cancer is diagnosed, treatment may include surgical removal, freezing or topical treatment for certain superficial lesions, or other therapies depending on the type and stage. When detected early, many common skin cancers can be treated very effectively.

The important thing: don’t pick, cut, burn, or try to remove a suspicious dark spot yourself. Get it checked by a dermatologist.
