.
It started as an ordinary sketch on The Carol Burnett Show. A simple game scene, a few well-timed jokes โ and then, out of nowhere, Tim Conway decided to go rogue. What happened next would become one of the funniest, most beloved outtakes in television history.
The year was 1977. Conway, ever the unpredictable genius of comedy, sat across from Carol Burnett, Vicki Lawrence, and Harvey Korman in a sketch called The Family. Everyone knew the lines. Everyone knew the cue. And then Tim โ with that mischievous glint in his eye โ began telling a completely unscripted story aboutโฆ an elephant.
No one knew where he was going. But within seconds, the studio was gone. Conway had the audience โ and his castmates โ in absolute hysterics. Carol tried to hold it together, covering her mouth and staring at the floor. Harvey Korman, famously unable to hide his laughter, collapsed behind his hands, tears streaming down his face. Even the crew can be heard cracking up off-camera.
