They sleep in separate bedrooms, but staff say one thing about their evenings reveals a lot about Donald and Melania Trump’s marriage

.

The president and first lady rarely open up about their relationship in public. As a result, rumors about their marriage have followed them for years. But behind closed doors, their relationship may look different from what people imagine.

Their story began with an unusual first date. After meeting Melania, who had just returned from a modeling shoot in the Caribbean, Donald took her on a 90-minute drive to Bedford, New Jersey, to look at a property he was interested in buying.

“So it was really nice to be just two of us,” Melania later told Fox News.

When promoting her memoir, *Melania*, she also looked back on the moment they first met, describing the instant connection she felt with the future president.

“From the moment Donald and I met, there was an undeniable spark. There was something magnetic about him: his confidence, his charm, his humor, his vision,” she said in a video promoting the book.

The couple married in 2005 and have rarely been seen displaying affection in public. Over the years, questions about their relationship have continued, particularly after reports emerged that they slept in separate bedrooms during Donald’s first term in the White House.

But according to an insider who spoke to the Daily Mail last year, there was one part of their daily routine they reportedly never skipped.

“They ate dinner together every night, though they did not share a bedroom,” the source claimed.

The insider also suggested that the atmosphere inside the White House offered clues about how the couple really got along.

“If you have a frigid marriage on a knife’s edge, staff can tell, and it’s uncomfortable. There was a good vibe from the housekeepers,” the source said.

Their interactions have also caught the attention of body language expert Judi James.

At Pope Francis’ funeral in April 2025, which took place on Melania’s birthday, James observed what she described as a noticeably warm exchange between the couple.

“He spoke to her. He made a smile, he made a laugh… So they were very warm together,” James told The Sun.

After more than two decades of marriage, the Trumps continue to keep much of their private life out of the public eye.

And if the reports about their evenings are accurate, their relationship may have a more ordinary side than many people expect: making time to sit down and have dinner together, even when they sleep in separate bedrooms ❤️
