Facebook, along with other social media platforms, was the original place for creating friendly and communal groups. Some of these groups are centered around everyday topics, like cleaning and homemaking! But not all posts in these groups are just about tips and advice. Sometimes, a post can leave group members scrambling for answers, with a bit of concern about the well-being of the original poster.
Such was the case in the “Homemaking Tips” group, when Kelli Tarin posted a bizarre image of a mysterious pile.
The post, which appeared on August 10th, was fairly recent. In it, Tarin shared a photo of a fine, dirt-like mess on the floor and asked if anyone could help her identify it. She explained that she had discovered two similar piles and had cleaned them daily. Worryingly, both piles were located in her daughter’s room, so it was crucial for Tarin to determine whether this was something she should be concerned about. She mentioned that the piles appeared shortly after moving into a rented house. As for the nature of the piles, Tarin described them as feeling like shells but looking like coffee grounds or ant beds.
Tarin turned to the online group for help, and the post quickly went viral, receiving over 9,000 comments and more than 440,000 reactions. Despite all the attention, no one could definitively identify the mysterious piles. However, many suggestions were offered. Some people believed it was an ant nest, with a particularly persistent colony. Others thought it might be mouse excrement, and some suspected it could be termite droppings.
